BAGS Founder Sara Newman
spent decades as a fashion model working on assignments that took
her around the globe. After lugging bags full of makeup and supplies
to various exotic destinations, she discovered that there was a
serious lack of well designed cosmetics cases on the market... Her
inspiration came while working in Japan where she noticed that the
makeup artists kept their supplies meticulously sorted in black
lacquer “bento” style boxes. She was struck by their
simple design that beautifully organized every brush, lipstick,
pencil and compact. After returning home to Venice, CA, she combed
through L.A.’s vintage stores (and her Mother’s closet)
finding further inspiration in classic 1950’s, ‘60’s
and ‘70’s purses and beauty cases. Using her sense of
style, her Harvard education, and help from her friends and ever
patient husband, Sara named her vision Soapbox Bags. Today, Soapbox
Bags offers a range of perfectly practical travel bags, handbags,
totes and cosmetics cases that are fantastically fun, affordable,
durable and stylish!
